Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides also known as Fagara. It is a popular traditional African medicine. In traditional African medicine it is commonly used to treat sickle cell disease. In Africa, it is chewed and the juice from it swallowed to treat sickle cell disease.

It is also used as an antibacterial chewing stick for treating bad breath, teeth and gum diseases. it keeps the mouth fresh and prevents tooth decay and dental caries.

We have found that Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides has a libido-boosting effect in men; hence, we started offering it as a simple mild aphrodisiac for men.

• It has insecticidal properties, its powder is an effective insecticide for preventing cowpea infestations or beans weevils during food storage.
• It has antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties; that is, it reduces pain and fever.
